Penn Hills Lawn & Garden strives to offer a unique selection of trees and shrubs for your landscape. Whether chosen for function or for style, our trees and shrubs are selected to thrive in our area for years to come. It is important to choose a plant that will successfully grow in your personal landscape. Proper placement is crucial; you do not want to plant a tree that requires full sun in a shady spot, or plant a tree that grows too large near the foundation of your home. If you are not certain what to choose, let our experienced staff help you find the perfect trees and shrubs for your individual needs.
Once you have selected your plants, it is time to prepare for planting. The video below will provide a step by step guide on how to plant a tree. You can follow the same steps in planting shrubs as well.

Additional Tips to Proper Planting
- Penn Hills Lawn & Garden offers a one year guarantee on regular priced trees and shrubs. See below for our complete tree and shrub guarantee.
- Our area has an abundance of clay soil! It is recommended that once you dig the hole, fill it with water to test the drainage. If the water does not drain, you need to put pea gravel in the bottom of the hole. Approximately 2 inches will be sufficient. Do NOT use limestone because it will change the ph of the soil. You will NOT dig the hole any deeper for the pea gravel. Once the pea gravel is in the hole, place a piece of landscape fabric over the gravel. Then, add in your planting mix and plant the tree according to the steps in the video. However, your tree in this situation will be raised from the soil level to provide the proper drainage.
